Dear Families,
Welcome to the third week of Religious Ed. I hope everyone is settling into our schedule and enjoying the new curriculum with your child/children.
The month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7th. Each week, your children will be praying a decade of the Rosary during class. If your child has a rosary of their own, please ask them to bring it to class each week. If they do not, their catechist will have rosaries for them to use.
A reminder for the 7th and 8th grade parents, there is a mandatory Confirmation meeting in church immediately after class tomorrow. Parents please make sure to be in church before the end of class (6:30 pm). If you have younger children in RE, they can walk to the church and meet there. The 7th and 8th grade students will walk over with their catechist once class is over. All information for Confirmation will be shared at this meeting.
I have some sad news to pass on at this time. The Most Reverend Kevin Birmingham passed away in his sleep this past Sunday night. . Bishop Birmingham, episcopal vicar of Vicariate VI (and most recently Vicariate IV) for the Archdiocese of Chicago, was ordained to the priesthood in 1997 and to the episcopacy in 2020. Details regarding his funeral arrangements will be shared in the coming days. In the meantime, please join in praying for the repose of his soul and for his family and friends who now mourn.
Thank you most sincerely,
Leslie Newhuis
